newick bonfire night
we won't be druv.
i have been to 41 of 43 possible newick bonfire nights.
it is the highlight of my social calendar.
left london with my spanish lady friend, the tawfiq and mr.bunny
swopped dog for sons and drove to chuck hatch on ash down forest (the heartland) for lunch, meeting my mum and dad, brother and sister in law.
after 15 years of cohabitation, mrs.perou has finally conceded that she doesn't enjoy bonfire night.
so gets a rare night off for home-alone with a glass of wine and a movie.
you either love it or hate it i guess.
I LOVE IT.

explained to the tawfiq and my spanish lady friend that it was much more fun in the 'old days' before health and safety and the endless sanitisation of tradition: when more explosives were utilised, when there was 1 policeman per 1000 people and crash barriers didn't exist.
at least some traditions, like the always fixed children's fancy dress competition don't change.
