mindfuck craft

maximum's friend rory came over

we did the 11mile roundtrip bike-ride to the windshack cafe for sausage and bacon baguettes, for lunch.

sunny but freezing COLD out.

passed heavy plant and tracked diggers reinforcing the 'sea wall' (aka bank of shingle that the boys love to scree-run down)

i spent the rest of my day making a kind of risotto that was over-complicated and annoyingly laborious.

the rest of maximum and rory's day was taken up with non-stop minecraft.

i lost my temper with maximum (again) when rory had left, after i asked maximum to stop with the x-box (after 5hrs straight minecraft) and he said,
'but what else IS there to do??'

there is more to life than mind-numbing craft, my son.

as i write this, z is listening to empire of the sun 'we are the people (who rule the world)'

i don't need for my sons to rule the world, but i DO want them to experience life outside the darkened playroom.

i read somewhere once, all we should want for our children is charm, curiosity and confidence.

ALL i want is for my boys to be happy, safe, self-confident and to see the world...even if they're not ruling it.
