mukuru kwa njenga pt.2

mukuru kwa njenga pt.2

let me start on a positive note.

drove into mukuru kwa njenga again and met up with the amusha youth group and gave them their printed pictures.

we were all super-impressed with their pictures and hang them up for an impromptu exhibition in a church made of corrugated tin.

left the youth group with their prints and we have taken scans of the same for an online gallery of their work: mukuru through their eyes.

it was brilliant.

this exhibition of the youth group's work is my highlight of the trip.

it was a privilege to meet them and shoot alongside them

mukuru talent contest

mukuru talent contest

it's been an emotional day.

and to be honest, i'm glad it's over: i'm grateful that i can walk away from the slums of nairobi

as we left mukuru kwa njenga today, we drove past two dead men, lying separately in the street.
one had flies coming out of his mouth

there is a lot of positivity here and there's more to nairobi than it's slums BUT there still are slums and we need to keep shouting about that till this changes.
