industrial injury
i've got peeler's thumb/wrist.
swede, potatoes, carrots, parsnips and brussel sprouts prepared for christmas lunch, for 13, for tomorrow.
we're going to have a feast: our last christmas at the perou-factory.
it's christmas eve innit.
started the day with a trip to my favourite bakers in islington: the 'euphorium bakery' on upper street, for a large lemon tart and a large apple tart.
stopped at tescos on route back for bread and veg etc...
panic buying had taken full hold of tescos and was shaking it like a crazy man.
at 10am shelves were emptying FAST.
people were so desperate, they were taking stuff out of other people's trollies.
i'm anticipating full scale rioting.
forgot to mention that driving round buckingham palace after the museum yesterday, we drove past a (presumably) murder scene at the top of st.james' park, within sight of the palace.
men in white overalls, white tent up, whole area cordened off.
returned home to catch a trailer on the news for the queen's christmas day speech where she discusses how the world is a harsh and horrible place at times but it's the only one we've got.
it's easy to forget how many people have a bad time at christmas when we're enjoying ourselves so much.
i always remember returning from bosnia just before christmas (immediately after the worst fighting there had stopped, a few years ago) to be confronted by the full onslaught of christmas commercialism: adverts for people who have everything and still need more...and feeling disgusted with it all, and myself.
big props to anyone who isn't set for a great time this christmas.
hope you all find a little christmas cheer and we appreciate it if we get it.
i'm off to hammersmith to catch up with mrs.perou, maximum and z and mrs.perou's mum and sister for a nativity/carol service down the local (church not pub).
must remember to leave santa out some cookies and cider tonight.
